So, you’ve spent the last two months in Westeros, sweating it out as the likes of the Lannisters, Starks, Tyrells and Martells play their unrelenting, unforgiving game of thrones…
I can’t speak to recent events on the show personally (I will watch season six on blu-ray when it comes out, hoping against all hope to avoid spoilers in the coming year, yeah right), but if my co-workers reactions week to week have been any indication, the last few episodes were nothing short of epic. Hardly surprising, right? It is, after all, Game of Thrones. Now that it’s done, you’ve had a short time to take a breather, let it soak in, and discuss your best theories around the water cooler at your office. With season six now behind you, and a torturous never-ending wait until season seven, you might be wondering this: what in the world am I going to watch on Sunday night now?
Well, I think I can help you out with that.
You may or may not have known, but while you have been watching Daenerys and her dragons do their thing, another awesome show has been entrancing viewers in the exact same Sunday night time slot, just across the pond on AMC. Preacher is now five episodes into a ten episode season, and things have been setting up for some serious last half payoffs. Things are about to get really good. This post is written with the intention of helping you to get up to speed if you so choose, so you can continue to watch and enjoy epic Sunday night TV, at least for the next five weeks anyway.
6/30 Marathon on AMC…that’s tonight!
AMC is running a marathon of the first five episodes starting at 9pm Eastern tonight . You can see the schedule here. I realize that that’s not a lot of time to prepare, what, with that only being a couple hours away from the time that this article was posted, but in the hopes that you do catch this blog post in time, you can set settle in or set your PVR accordingly. Marathons surely have to be in AMC’s future plans at this point in the season, to allow new viewers to get up to speed at their convenience. We’ll be keeping an eye on this and will make every effort to shout on the blog or Twitter the next time AMC arranges a similar binge watching session.
Preacher In Two Minutes
Alternatively, you can check out this two minute clip released by AMC that does a pretty good job of summarizing the first five episodes. Obviously, you won’t get the details this way, but from a high level perspective, it gets the job done…
One cool thing about the evolving Preacher community is the number of Podcasts dedicated to the show that have popped up early into the shows existence. There are a wide variety to choose from, altering in premise, all of awesome quality. This is a great way to get into things as you watch the show, especially considering most podcasts have specific post-episode entries.
You can access AMC.com’s top nine Preacher podcasts by clicking here.
You would be hard pressed to find a better Preacher online glossary than that which can be found on Preacher Wiki. Like most Wiki’s, this is a comprehensive resource that you can use as either a companion or stand alone resource. The guy who runs it is serious about what he does, and has worked hard to make the site as good as it is.
What better way to get familiar with the world of Preacher than to read the groundbreaking graphic novel it’s based on. For a mere 12 bucks, you can begin the incredible journey in it’s original format, a collection that includes (in my opinion) one of the greatest story arcs in recent fiction history. Yes, it’s that good.
So, that pretty much covers it. Check out the above resources and get yourself up to speed, and then join us every Sunday night from here on in. Welcome to Annville folks!
