There are some pretty serious spoilers be below, be mindful folks…

If you are a Preacher fan of the comic variety that has already read the entire thing, then chances are you have a favorite arc in the greater story. Not that it’s easy to pick just one favorite, what, with there being so many great subplots in Preacher. But among all the insanity, violence, and absurdity of it all, there’s probably a moment in “Preacher time” that stands out for you above the rest, am I right?

I know what mine is, and I’m pretty sure as far as favorites go, I’m in the minority. If you were to poll Preacher fans however, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Angelville story arc early in the series was proven to be tops among fans. That story arc has absolutely everything: a significant history, injustice, love, loss, hatred, and above all else (and I do mean ALL else) our desperate need as readers to see revenge dished out. It’s part of what makes this arc so incredible: the ability to trigger significant emotional responses in the way only the absolute best of fiction can.

Us Preacher fans have been digging around since the pilot, using our limited viewings of material to try and find out all we can about the show. On that note, we saw this post yesterday from podcast rockstars Preacher vs Preacher…

This particular find was also expertly dug up at therobotspajamas.com

So those symbols, all the same right? The comic symbol is part of the entrance archway to none other than Angelville (not to be confused with current TV show location Annville) which is situated on the Louisiana and Texas border. It is also Jesse Custer’s boyhood home in the comics.

Allow me to blow that up a little for you…

Angelville could easily be counted among the most evil places ever created by a fiction writer. Long story cut negligently short, Jesse and his family were held against their will in Angelville by Jesse’s diabolical grandmother and her henchmen, during which time they were subjected to the worst physical, mental and emotional abuse you could possibly imagine. You can read a little more about the back story on our Jesse Custer bio page.

amc-preacher-angelville-grandma-jody-tc-story-line-insideThe connection between the three symbols is amazing news for Preacher fans, old and new alike. Ever since the revelation that AMC changed Jesse’s father’s backstory (making him a Preacher rather than veteran of the Vietnam war), the fate of the beloved Angelville story arc has been in limbo. I mean, how could they make it work? The family has to go through their trails and tribulations in Angelville while trying to escape, how can they do that if Jesse’s father’s a preacher? I’m still not sure how it can work to be honest, but this find surely puts all the pieces in place to suggest that the arc is on it’s way…

If you’ve made it this far, you’re obviously cool with spoilers, so I’m not breaking any news or hearts by telling you that Jesse’s father was shot to death in the comics by one of his Grandmother’s henchmen Jody. Now, the flashback scene in the TV show shows Jesse’s father being shot to death by a person sporting the same tattoo that Jesse has on his back. So there is a correlation there for sure, an undeniable commonality, that Jesse and his father’s killer were undoubtedly (or still are) part of the same group, gang, or, yes, even family.

Finding the same symbol on the Angelville archway ties the whole thing together. And it is  the same symbol as those sported by the actors in the show, pretty much exactly. You have to believe Rogen and company are setting the basis for this arc up early. True, the inclusion of this story arc is far from confirmed, but as far as I’m concerned, based upon these details, there’s no doubt in my mind it is going to happen.

But when? Not in season one, that’s for sure. We know they are sticking to Angelville for the entire season, it has been confirmed. But what I can see perhaps, and tell me what you think, is Tulip being kidnapped at the very end of season one by none other than Jody and his equally dastardly (and rather deranged) henchmen TC. How would you like that as a set up for season two? #LongestWaitForTheNextSeasonEver
